Cancer - Aquarius Love Compatibility

Cancer and Aquarius may not be the best ever Star Sign sign pairing! But they’re a great example of an apparently mismatched couple who – with a little patience and mutual give and take – can actually learn to thrive on their differences and enjoy a good level of love compatibility.

As far as love compatibility is concerned, some people see this as one of the more challenging Star Sign combinations, with one sign – Cancer – ruled by the element of Water and the other – Aquarius – ruled by the conflicting element of Air. In reality though, things aren’t necessarily quite as difficult as they might initially appear!

True, a fundamentally different approach to life – sensitive and domestically oriented in the case of Cancer – rational and highly sociable in the case of Aquarius – can give rise to some disagreements and a fair bit of mutual criticism. In a long-term relationship, Aquarius's powerful need for freedom can be unsettling to Cancer, for whom security is always paramount. On the other hand Aquarius – usually a big party animal – may feel held back and frustrated by the shy Crab's reluctance to leave hearth and home.

But if each accepts they have much to learn and benefit from the other, Cancer and Aquarius have the potential to cooperate quite successfully as a team. From motherly Cancer – born to look after others – Aquarius can gain the emotional and domestic stability it needs to counterbalance its restlessness. In turn Aquarius – a confident mixer with lots of wacky friends – can help the nervous Crab to widen its horizons and make some new and interesting contacts.

Clearly there are some major emotional differences between Cancer and Aquarius. Water sign Cancer is one of the most highly sensitive and deeply emotional signs in the Zodiac. In stark contrast, Air sign Aquarius is often disconnected from its emotions, its characteristic responses being governed largely by logic rather than gut feelings.

What the Crab wants most is emotional warmth and closeness, but the independent Aquarian has no real need for such things in its life. The big problem could that Cancer may be looking for a level of emotional attachment and nurturing that Aquarius – probably the most emotionally detached of all the star signs – simply isn’t capable of delivering.

Sexually, these star signs don't always click initially: emotionally needy Cancer may complain that Aquarius is too cool, too unpredictable, and too unwilling to commit, while to self-contained Aquarius, the tender-hearted Crab can seem too moody, too clingy and far too easily hurt. For things to work sexually between these two, Aquarius has to be prepared to give up some of its personal space and tune in more to the Crab's feelings, while Cancer needs to ease up on its demands and develop more self-reliance.

These two Star Signs couldn’t really be much more different in their way of thinking. Cautious Cancer prefers tried and tested ideas to more new-fangled methods which might prove too risky. Aquarius has a much more progressive and experimental mindset and is more willing to try out  novel, ground-breaking approaches. When tackling problems, Cancer is more likely to turn to the past for inspiration, while Aquarius looks to the future.

Cancer and Aquarius are poles apart in their characteristic styles of communication. While Cancer mainly wants to discuss how it feels about something, Aquarius tends to be much more rational and analytical. Whereas Cancer sees an issue largely from its own standpoint, Aquarius is more easily able to appreciate the wider, more universal implications. In short, the big mental stumbling block between these two Star Signs is that one is led primarily by its heart and the other by its head.

While Cancer is attached to the old and familiar, Aquarius is much more into the new and kicks against all forms of tradition and convention. Rebellious Aquarius loves to shock others through unexpected and controversial behavior, while the easily startled Crab hates any kind of unforeseen surprises. The risk-averse Water sign prefers hanging out with close-knit family and friends and can be nervous about meeting new people, while the unorthodox Air sign thrives on exciting new contacts, and the more unusual the better.

This raises some important questions regarding the ability of a Cancer-Aquarius couple to co-exist harmoniously together. Will stay-at-home Cancer end up stifling the innovative Aquarian’s urge to constantly move forward and make all kinds of new discoveries? Will the motherly Crab be left carrying all the domestic responsibilities in this relationship, while its Aquarian partner enjoys an unfettered and fancy-free existence?

Only if both people have a live-and-let-live outlook and are very tolerant of one another, is a Cancer-Aquarius love match likely to prove successful in the long run.
