Virgo - Leo Love Compatibility

Although in many ways it may seem that couples with consecutive Star Signs, like Virgo and Leo, have little in common, because there’s a greater than average probability that they will share Mercury and/or Venus signs, they often have far more similarities, and thus a higher level of love compatibility, than one might expect.

For sure, there are some big differences between Leo and Virgo due to the conflicting Fire-Earth combination – the former basically being quite passionate and flamboyant, while the latter is much more analytical and down-to-earth.

Nevertheless – probably because they're next-door neighbors in the Zodiac – consecutive Star Signs such as Leo and Virgo are traditionally considered to have quite a good level of love compatibility and a reasonable chance of understanding each other and getting on. There’s a surprising ability to tolerate each other’s contrasting way of going about things, and they can generally relate to one another’s weak points, which each can help the other to overcome.

Leo for example, can often empathize with Virgo’s perfectionism, while teaching it to see more of the bigger picture and stop worrying about inconsequential details. In turn, practical Virgo can give concrete support to Leo’s grand schemes – which it may secretly find quite exciting – while ensuring it keeps its feet firmly on the ground.

In a live-in relationship, Virgo and Leo actually make a good team. Go-getting Leo loves a partner they can rely on to keep everything ticking over back home while they're out strutting their stuff – and who better than the humble and hardworking Virgin who loves having someone to look after, and is always happiest operating behind the scenes.

The characteristic emotional responses of Virgo and Leo are certainly quite different. Leo has a lot of personal pride which is easily wounded when it doesn’t get enough applause and recognition, while Virgo is modest and self-effacing, and can feel very uncomfortable when it is the centre of attention.

The Lion seeks passionate and demonstrative displays of love and affection, but may not get enough ‘strokes’ from its Virgo partner. Virgo is more emotionally self-sufficient, actively dislikes gushing emotionality and shows its affection in quieter and more practical ways.

When a Virgo is upset it coolly expresses its displeasure through sharp-tongued criticism (which can be highly damaging to Leo’s sensitive ego). Leo, the Zodiac’s ‘drama queen’ is given to flamboyant histrionics when angry, which the Earth sign may find highly undignified and embarrassing.

Whether or not these emotional contrasts create problems, depends on the willingness of the two people to learn from, and counterbalance, each other’s instinctive reactions – and how much they genuinely want this relationship to work.

Sexually, Virgo and Leo don’t always click initially. The hot-blooded Lion may complain that Virgo is too cool and analytical, and takes an overly clinical approach to sex, while Leo’s unabandoned passion and theatrical sexual antics can be hard for undemonstrative Virgo to know how to respond to.

Although Virgo is certainly no prude where sex is concerned, it does have a certain coyness and sexual reservedness, preferring to just ‘get down to business’ rather than turning sex into a huge drama. For things to work sexually between these two, Virgo needs to be rather less prissy, while Leo has to pay more attention to detail and stop thinking only of its own personal performance.

In theory these two Star Signs should complement each other well in the way their minds work. Virgo has a great eye for detail, but at the same time often fails to see the wood for the trees. Leo, on the other hand, is excellent at understanding the bigger picture, but doesn’t always remember to read the small print.

Put these two contrasting thinking styles together and potentially you have a very intellectually capable duo. But because Leo and Virgo’s communication is so dysfunctional, they’re not very good at ‘hearing’ what the other has to say.

Virgo’s habit of endlessly discussing the minutiae of a situation, often to the point of being very pedantic, causes Leo to switch off and stop listening. In turn, Virgo soon learns the best way of enduring the Lion’s ego-dominated big talk is to simply ignore it. As a result, establishing a meaningful two-way dialogue can be such hard work for these two that they end up like ships passing in the night.

Unusually, the more stereotypical these two individuals are of their respective star signs, the better this relationship is likely to work! Here, the stark contrasts between Leo and Virgo – the one being extroverted and bossy and the other rather shy and submissive – make them perfectly suited to cooperate as partners.

As long as Virgo doesn’t mind taking a back seat and doing most of the hard slog, while allowing Leo to wear the pants and get most of the recognition in this relationship, all should go quite smoothly. But if either person isn’t true to type or is uncomfortable with these classical gender roles, there will be more challenges to face.
