Moon Sign Compatibility

No need to despair if your Star Sign isn’t a great astrological match with your partner’s. The truth is, for any two people who share a home together, it’s actually their Moon Sign rather than their Star Sign compatibility that is most important.

Our Moon Sign describes our feeling nature and our expression of those feelings in terms of our habitual reactions, mannerisms and general temperament.

How well your Moon Sign clicks with your partner’s will determine how emotionally at ease you feel with them on an everyday domestic level. This is because it’s only when you spend a lot of time in someone else’s company that you notice all their little habits and idiosyncracies, which you’ll either find charming or infuriating, depending on how compatible your Moon Signs are.

Moon Signs come in the form of Fire Moons (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), Earth Moons (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), Air Moons (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) and Water Moons (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces).

Since each of these elemental groups (Fire, Earth, Air and Water) all share the same basic kind of feelings nature, when you partner with someone whose Moon is in the same group as yours, you’ll have the reassurance of always knowing where each other are coming from. Emotionally you will experience a high level of harmony because in terms of your instinctive responses to the world you’re both on the same page.

Let’s look at a real life situation – witnessing a car accident – and how someone’s instinctive responses will differ depending on their Moon Sign.

Fire Moon Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) will home in on the shock and horror of the event and get very worked up when recounting it, because they tend to see life in highly dramatic terms.

In contrast, the highly grounded Earth Moon Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) will simply focus on the concrete facts and realities with no elaborations.

Air Moon Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) will have a similarly cool-headed response, but due to their questioning nature will be more interested in discussing the whys and wherefores.

Finally, Water Moon Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) are the most likely to be emotionally upset by what happened and feel the most concern for the plight of the victims.

If, in any important life event, your partner’s instinctive reactions are very different to your own you may experience a high level of emotional misunderstandings and a low level of emotional rapport. For example, a passionate Fire Moon or sensitive Water Moon will typically dismiss their Earth or Air Moon partner’s response as overly cool and uncaring. Whereas an Earth or Air Moon may have a hard time relating to what they see as their Fire or Water Moon partner’s over-the-top reactions.

While you’ll have the easiest time cohabiting with someone with a similar emotional disposition to yourself (fiery, earthy, airy or watery), if you’re more adventurous you can learn a lot by partnering with someone whose Moon Sign is the opposite to your own. The balancing effect they will exert on your emotions will help to keep some of your more extreme reactions safely in check.
